What to expect
This route links the cool mountain valley of Santiago del Teide to the towering sea cliffs of Los Gigantes in just 10 km. The TF-82, sweeps down into the Tamaimo valley before the steep, twisty TF-454 plunges toward the western coast, finishing at the Mirador Vistas de Los Gigantes where 600-metre rock faces drop straight into the Atlantic.
It is one of the island’s most dramatic descents — nearly a kilometre of elevation lost from village to sea. The BMW R 12 G/S suits it perfectly: the boxer’s engine braking holds you steady down the sharpest declines, while its front end stays planted diving into the downhill switchbacks.
The TF-454 is the main artery into the resort towns, so expect some local traffic and tourist buses on the way down. Late afternoon is the time to ride it, when the setting sun turns the cliffs of Los Gigantes a glowing red and gold.
