What to expect

This is the striking FV-30 climb out of the ancient capital of Betancuria across Fuerteventura’s panoramic central mountains, connecting to the wide-open plains of the FV-207 towards the traditional village of Tefía.

The character of the road changes completely in just 20 minutes. Starting deep in a historic valley originally hidden from the sea to avoid pirate attacks, the route climbs tight switchbacks past the giant bronze statues of ancient kings Guise and Ayose. As you descend, the rugged mountains give way to a sweeping, windmill-dotted desert landscape where locals historically ground roasted grain into a Canary staple called “gofio”.

A perfect two-in-one route that blends technical mountain carving with relaxed desert cruising. Shift your focus through the tight corners, then relax and enjoy the horizon on the long straights, experiencing the journey on a versatile bike like the 2025 Ducati Multistrada V2.

Fascinating facts

  • The giant bronze statues you pass on the FV-30 represent Guise and Ayose, the two kings who ruled the divided island of Fuerteventura (Jandía and Maxorata) before the 15th-century conquest
  • Betancuria was founded in a valley completely hidden from the sea to protect it from pirate attacks
  • Tefía is home to the Ecomuseo La Alcogida, a fascinating living museum that preserves the traditional rural way of life, architecture, and crafts of the island
  • As you transition from the FV-30 to the FV-207, you are literally leaving the oldest mountainous formations of the island and entering the vast, eroded central plains
  • The windmills (molinos) visible near Tefía were historically used to grind roasted grain into "gofio", a staple food of the Canary Islands
