The north of Tenerife is a completely different ride from the arid south. Where the south is dry resort coastline, the north is green, cooler and dramatic: laurel forest in the Anaga mountains, the pine belt above La Esperanza, banana valleys around La Orotava, and a black-volcanic coast through Garachico and Icod de los Vinos. Base yourself in seaside Puerto de la Cruz, the island capital Santa Cruz, or UNESCO-listed La Laguna and you are minutes from tight forest hairpins, cliff-top miradores over the Atlantic, and the misty north approach to Teide. There is real sightseeing between the bends, too: the historic old town of La Laguna, the colonial centre of La Orotava, the volcanic rock pools of Garachico and the thousand-year-old Drago Milenario in Icod. If you want twisting, scenic, low-traffic roads rather than straight resort highways, the north is where you want a motorcycle under you.

We bring your motorcycle to your hotel, apartment or villa in Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, La Orotava, Los Realejos and the surrounding north coast, and we deliver to both airports: Tenerife North (TFN) at Los Rodeos, the natural arrival point for the north, as well as Tenerife South (TFS). Delivery is free on orders over 500 euros; below that a delivery fee applies, so just ask us for the exact cost to your address when you book. You ride away fully briefed, with helmets included, ready to head straight onto the TF-5 coast or up into Anaga.

Best roads from the north

The north has the best motorcycling roads on the island. The TF-12 through the Anaga mountains is the headline ride: endless hairpins under ancient laurel forest, with miradores like Cruz del Carmen and Pico del Ingles and the run down to Taganana and Playa de Benijo. The TF-24 over La Esperanza (Las Raices) is the green, forested back way up toward Teide from the north; it climbs through pine woods and can be cold and cloudy at altitude, so layer up. Westward, the TF-5 carries you along the north coast to Garachico and Icod, the gateway to the spectacular Teno massif and the Masca road (TF-436) from the northwest. Greener scenery, cooler air and quieter asphalt than the south.

Can I pick up the bike at Tenerife North airport (TFN)?

Yes. We deliver to both Tenerife airports: Tenerife North (TFN, Los Rodeos), which is the closest to Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz and La Laguna, and Tenerife South (TFS). Tell us your flight details and we will have your motorcycle and helmets ready so you can ride straight out onto the north roads. Free delivery applies on orders over 500 euros.

Can I ride south on the same bike?

Absolutely. Your rental is for the whole island: pick up in the north and ride anywhere, from the Anaga mountains and the north coast to Teide and the southern resorts, all on the same motorcycle. The north and south are easily linked in a day, so many riders base in the cooler north and explore both sides on one trip.

What are the best motorcycle routes in the north?

The classic is the TF-12 loop through the Anaga laurel forest, taking in the Cruz del Carmen and Pico del Ingles miradores and the coast at Taganana and Benijo. From Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava, the TF-24 over La Esperanza is the scenic forested climb toward Teide. Heading west on the TF-5 brings you to Garachico, Icod and the Teno massif with the famous Masca road (TF-436). We can suggest a full one-day north loop when you book.

What licence do I need, A or A2?

You need a valid full motorcycle licence appropriate to the power of the bike. We have A2-compatible motorcycles for riders on an A2 licence, and larger machines for full A-licence holders. Bring your physical licence, and an International Driving Permit if your licence is from outside the EU. Tell us your licence category when booking and we will match you to a bike you can legally and confidently ride on the mountain roads of the north.

Is north Tenerife good for beginners?

It can be, with the right bike and route. The north is cooler, greener and more varied than the south, which makes for rewarding riding, but roads like the TF-12 Anaga and TF-436 Masca are tight, twisty mountain roads better suited to confident riders. Newer riders can start on gentler stretches of the TF-5 coast and quieter valley roads on an A2-friendly machine. Weather changes with altitude, so pack layers: it can be cool and misty up high even when the coast is warm.
