Climbing out of the lush El Palmar valley, the route crosses the weather divide at the Baracán ridge before plunging into the impossibly steep, single-lane switchbacks of the Masca ravine, passing through the historic hamlet of Masca and rising past Mirador de Cherfe to Santiago del Teide
